Dr. (Mrs) Suman Kumari Mishra., is currently Director, CSIR-Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI) Kolkata since Jan 2021. Prior to that, she was Chief Scientist and served 25 years at different levels of Scientist at CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory Jamshedpur. She has also served as Director of CSIR-Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI), Durgapur, as an additional Charge for 11 months (15th March 2022 to 6th February 2023).
Dr. Mishra did her Ph.D. in Materials Science at IIT Kharagpur and is a gold medalist in her Master's Degree in Physics at Ranchi University.
Dr. (Mrs) Suman Kumari Mishra has contributed very significantly to the understanding of mechanisms and the development of advanced ceramics and their coatings, high-temperature materials & composites hard & tough coatings, and corrosion & wear protection coatings for different industrial applications, Energy materials such as thermoelectric and solar reflector coatings, by different advanced processes such as different PVD processes, hot dip galvanizing simulation, Laser cladding, and SHS process. Besides her basic & applied research, she has carried out projects for leading industries such as Boeing USA, Tata steel, and Aditya Birla S & T group and has joint patents. Two of the technologies have been transferred.
She has an impressive career with 15 patents, more than 120 SCI publications, and chapters in 7 books. Her excellence has fetched several coveted awards including the NASI Fellow, Metallurgist of the Year Award, Vasvik Award, MRSI medal, Raman Fellowship, CSIR Young Scientist in Eng. Sciences and many best paper awards. She has held many leading positions and heads of important divisions and committees at different times in her carrier . She has served as Dean and Associate Dean for engineering sciences in ACSIR for more than 10 years.
As Director of CSIR-CGCRI, she is catalyzing technology transfers and strategic projects for the components along with basic and applied material research and overall growth of the human resource and the institutuion.
